You may have seen an Athletic Trainer performing eye tests on a football field to quickly assess if a concussion occurred. This is because eye movements are a direct measure of your brain. As a Functional Neurologist, we can determine where the source of your symptoms that may include dizziness, headaches, migraines, heart rate and blood pressure changes, light headedness when standing, light and sound sensitivity, vertigo, eye tracking issues, blurry or double vision, difficulty focusing, and emotional changes are eminating from.

Once we determine where the problem is in your brain, we can devise treatments to restore connectivity in your brain through neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity refers to a change in the brain. After concussion the brain changes, but we can retrain the brain to work properly again!

Like muscle memory in the body, Neuroplasticity is like muscle memory in the brain. Like exercise the more we perform a stimulation, the stronger the connections in that part of the brain. Unlike working out, if you stop performing these exercises, you maintain the changes, so the treatment has permanent, long-term effect when performed properly.

The brain is malleable like plastic, we can turn it into anything we want with the right treatments. Symptoms occur when communication, or connections are broken down or lost. Like a wi-Fi signal, if you lose proper connection, processing is slow. Similarly in the brain, we can't process fast enough to handle the busy world around us, whether it is light, sound, driving, scrolling, busy environments, emotional stress, etc.

The treatment itself is specific to the individual's concussion symptoms, also called post-concussion syndrome. Specificity is key, and although we are using the eyes as part of our treatment, there's no problem with your eyes, but in the connections between your brain and your eyes. Likewise connectivity problems between your brain and balance systems, and between your heart and blood vessel control, and your body are often compromised. Our specific approach examines all potential areas of dysfunction so that we repair every possible source of your concussion symptoms.
