What is Neuroplasticity? It refers to the ability of the brain to adapt, reorganizing to create new neural pathways so that we can CHANGE our brain function as needed. Why is it needed? Many of us go through life changing head injuries, major life events that alter us in some way, illness, accidents, postural changes and every day stress that can effect the way we function. This changes our perception of the world due to neurological adaptations in Cognitive, Vestibular, Cerebellar and Brain Stem function, whether good or bad.

That's the bad news, here's the good news. You can restore normal function in the brain through neuroplasticity. If you can get worse from changes in signaling within the context of your nervous system, then you can also improve! We're able to accomplish this through careful examination and testing, allowing us to positively diagnose the area(s) of the brain that have been altered in normal function and create treatments that restore normal signaling within the brain. This is known as Neuroplasticity Retraining. By understanding which areas of the brain and nervous system are affected, we are able to create specific treatments for the brain to restore accuracy and allow proper flow of information within itself and its communciation with the body. We are exceptionally adept at treating mild Traumatic Brain injury/Concussion, Chronic Migraines, Vertigo/Dizziness, Movement Disorders(Tremors/Dystonia), Balance Disorders/Ataxia and Developmental Disorders in children/adolescents.

Our team of doctors at Portland Chiropractic Neurology are specially trained in these complicated disorders and are very successful in many instances. We are conveniently located at 959 Congress St. in Portland, Maine and have ample parking. Please contact us if you wish to know more.
